[Paris] Septime*

My visit:  Passard trained Chef Bertrand Grebaut’s modern, one Michelin star, casual neo-bistro is one of the hottest tables in Paris and has been included in nearly every “must eat in Paris” list across the globe since opening five years ago.

I was wondering if it will live up to the hype having stalked the online reservations for months to score a table for lunch.  We decided to go all the way and trust Bertrand & team with the full 55€ carte blanche menu to get a taste of what they do. I did work very hard for the reservation, better make it count right?!

White Asparagus

We started off with the white asparagus with bread crumbs, goat cheese and nuts.  Chef Bertrand truly showcased the flavor of the white asparagus – it was sweet and had its own distinct aroma.  The toasty crumbs added the contrasting texture it needed.

Cuttlefish

Following was the cuttlefish with hollandaise.  The cuttlefish was tender and the sauce was lusciously rich, lemony and smooth.

Hen

Our first main was a hen with bak choy, new garlic in a red wine sauce.  This has to be the most succulent and moist chicken I have ever had.  It made our whole table literally go silent.  The dish was incredibly flavorful and hearty.  All the components just married so well together.

Hick Fish

The hick fish which was soft, flaky and delicate.  It literally melted in my mouth!  Served with ham, turnips, brussels sprouts and flower sprouts, the vegetables added the perfect amount of bitterness and the saltiness from the ham helped balance it all out.

Cheese

I love hard cheeses.  The aged gouda was absolutely delicious. It was sharp yet sweet at the same time.

Pine Needle Ice Cream with Apple an Pear Puree

For dessert, we had pine needle ice cream accompanied by a refreshing apple and pear puree with chewy buckwheat crumble.

Verdict:  I highly recommend Septime. Dishes are creative but not too crazy, just clean fresh and inventive plates at great prices.  The staff is professional, friendly and has a good knowledge of their food and wines.  Septime is definitely a restaurant that should not be missed!
